Setting Up Webchat

Webchat lets customers start conversations directly from your website.

This guide covers enabling webchat, configuring when it's available, and installing the widget on your site.

Prerequisites

Active VersanaCX account. Owner or admin access. Access to your website's HTML (to add the widget script).

Step 1: Enable Webchat

Go to Dashboard → Settings → Webchat. Toggle webchat to enabled.

Your workspace's public key will be displayed — you'll need this for the widget installation.

Step 2: Choose an Availability Mode

VersanaCX™ supports three availability modes for webchat:

  • Always Available — the widget is online 24/7.
  • Business Hours — the widget follows a schedule you define, based on your timezone.
  • Offline — the widget is hidden or shows an offline message.

You can change the availability mode at any time from the Webchat settings page.

Step 3: Install the Widget

Add the following script tag to your website, just before the closing body tag. Replace YOUR_PUBLIC_KEY with your actual public key from the Webchat settings page.

The widget will appear in the bottom-right corner of your site by default.

Step 4: Verify Your Installation

  1. Visit your website in a browser.
  2. Confirm the chat widget appears.
  3. Send a test message.
  4. Check your VersanaCX Inbox — the message should appear within a few seconds.

Troubleshooting

  • "The widget doesn't appear." — Confirm the script tag is placed correctly and the public key matches your workspace. Clear your browser cache and reload.
  • "Messages aren't arriving in my Inbox." — Verify webchat is enabled in settings. Check that the public key is correct.
  • "The widget shows as offline." — Check your availability mode. If set to Business Hours, confirm the current time falls within your configured schedule.
